JONESBORO, Ark. (Feb. 18, 2012) - Sophomore Jerica Coley netted her 19th, 20-plus performance of the season as FIU defeated Sun Belt Conference foe Arkansas State, 52-45, on Saturday night at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
With the win, FIU improves to 18-9 (8-6 SBC) while ASU falls to 11-16 (5-9 SBC).
Coley led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-22 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. Coley has now scored in double-figures in each of FIU's 27 games this season, as the point guard also contributed seven rebounds, a team-best three assists and one steal versus the Red Wolves.
Junior Finda Mansare posted her fourth double-double of the season and fifth of her career, registering 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds on the night. Mansare also recorded one block, one steal and one assist in 33 minutes against ASU.
Leading the Panthers in the steals category was redshirt senior Fanni Hutlassa with three swipes. Hutlassa contributed six boards, four points and one assist in 36 minutes of play as she set an FIU career record with the appearance, having played in 126 contests for her career.
FIU shot 39.6 percent (21-of-53) on the night while ASU was 13-of-47 (27.7 percent) from the floor. The Panthers out-rebounded the Red Wolves by a 42-30 margin and FIU recorded nine steals compared to five for ASU.
In the first half, FIU took its largest lead of the game at 25-17 with 1:41 left to play in the opening stanza, as the Panthers went into the locker room at halftime with a 25-20 advantage. Out of the break, FIU remained in control for the rest of the contest as the Panthers went on for the 52-45 victory.
