EUGENE - For the second time in his career, senior Eugene Wong was chosen to the prestigious All-Nicklaus Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The North Vancouver, B.C. native was one of 24 honorees from Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA honored Tuesday for their outstanding play the past season.

Wong ranked fourth nationally in D1 in scoring average (70.35, +0.177), and paced the Ducks in rounds of par or better (1/23) in 2011-12. Altogether, he topped the team in 18 of his 40 rounds, and in the final standings of six of its 14 season events - including the NCAA Championships (13th, 72-74-69 (+2)).

Picking up his second Pac-12 Player of the Year honor in April, he also won the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in the fall with a school record 18-under score (76-73-67-195) on the par-71 course.

He also added three runner-up finishes in The Prestige (70-64-70-204 (-12)), Oregon Duck Invitational (69-69-73-210 (-6)) and U.S. Intercollegiate (69-68-73 (E)).

Among his seven, top-three finishes on the season, he also placed third in the Gifford Collegiate (66-68-72 (-7)), Aggie Invitational (73-75-70-218 (+2)) and Pac-12 Championships (68-68-69-73-279 (-9)).

In the Oregon school season record books, his scoring average (70.35 / -0.98 vs. par) stood as a school record. Besides his 18-under school record, he added two more of its best-ever tourney scores (12-under, fourth-best; 9-under, 12th-best), and three of its 12 best round scores (8-under (third-best, twice) and 6-under (12th-best)).

Career-wise he ended with UO's second-best total for rounds of par or better (82), and his season total (24) stood fourth-best in school history. He also stands second-best in school history among career victories (3).

The 2011-12 honor was the second for Wong after he was also tabbed the Nicklaus Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2009-10.

The All-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008, and is named for Jack Nicklaus. The former NCAA Champion from Ohio State is considered the sport's greatest player, and is also a long-time supporter of collegiate and amateur golf.
