Danny Wheel is entering his eighth year as head strength and conditioning coach at UNCG in the 2017-18 season. Wheel brings over 18 years of experience to the Spartans.
Prior to his arrival in Greensboro, Wheel spent 10 years as a member of East Carolina University's Strength and Conditioning department. He spent six years as the coordinator of Olympic sports at ECU. He worked directly with the men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, volleyball and women's soccer programs while also assisting with football.
During Wheel's first four years at East Carolina, he was the assistant director of strength and conditioning. He also assisted in organization and design of the new weight room in the Murphy Center.
Wheel graduated from Virginia Tech in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in physical education, and received his master's degree in health education from Virginia Tech in 2001. While receiving his graduate degree, Wheel served as a strength and conditioning graduate assistant under the direction Mike Gentry.
He played football for Frank Beamer's Hokies from 1993-1998, finishing his career as a three-year letterman and a two-year starter. Wheel was also a member of the corps of cadets for four years.
Wheel is a certified member of the Collegiate Strength Coaches Association. He is also certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Wheel closes out his certifications by being an Olympic Club Coach certified. Wheel also competes in strongman and power lifting events.
