Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra Baseball team travels to Albany, NY, for a Wednesday afternoon game against the Great Danes of the University at Albany. First pitch at Varsity Field is set for 4 p.m.
The game marks the second meeting with Albany this season. Hofstra posted a 12-4 win on April 4 at home. Danny Poma had four hits in the game, while Kevin Flyn added three. Taylor Stuart, Matt Ford, Jared Hammer and Kenny Jackson each had two hits. Hammer also contributed four RBIs in the game.
The Pride (28-18) is coming off a weekend series against Northeastern that saw the Pride take two of three from the Huskies. In doing so, the Pride set a new record for wins in a season with 28.The Pride also set new team marks for runs in a season and doubles in a season with 380 and 125, respectively.
Poma also made team history over the weekend as he broke Matt Prokopowicz' five-year old record for hits in a season with his 83rd on Saturday. Poma now has 87 hits on the season and leads the nation in that category. He also ranks second in the nation in batting with his .446 average.
Albany is 16-28-1 on the year. D.J. Hoagboon leads the Great Danes in abtting with a .333 average and has added 25 RBIs. Mike Tirri is hitting .306 and is tied for the team lead in home runs with five while leading the squad in RBIs.
Nick Kozlowski will get the start for the Pride. Kozlowski went four shutout innings in his starting debut last Tuesday at Rutgers. On the season he is 0-0 with a 2.92 ERA in seven appearances.
Following the non-conference matchup, Hofstra will travel to Towson this weekend for a three-game CAA series. The Pride will look to lock up the #2 seed in the upcoming CAA Championship.
