BANDON, Ore. --- Chattanooga Mocs departing senior Christine Wolf (Igls, Austria) won her first round match at the United State Women's Amateur Public Links in convincing fashion. Wolf beat University of Washington signee Jennifer Yang 4&2 to move into the round of 32 on the Old McDonald Course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
The three seed in match play, Wolf got off to a great start with birdies on two, five and six to jump out to a 4up lead. After bogeys halved the par four seventh, Yang battled back.
She parred eight and nine to close within two of Wolf at the turn. That's when the yo-yo started. Wolf won with pars at 10 and 12 to sandwich a Yang win on 11. That put Wolf 3up with six holes to play.
Yang answered with a birdie on the short par four 13th to close within two for the third time after trailing by four holes. But Wolf was up to the task. After halving the 14th, she birdied 15 and parred 16 for back-to-back wins and a 4&2 triumph.
Wolf moves on to face UCLA's Tiffany Lua in the round of 32. Lua was a member of the U.S. Curtis Cup team in 2010. The two square off tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. (ET) for a berth in the round of 16 which will also be played Thursday starting at 5 p.m.GoMocs.com is the official website of the Chattanooga Mocs.
