|XC Season Preview|
The Idaho men’s and women’s cross country are gearing up for another great season in 2014-15. Both teams are full of young talent and are heading into the season with high hopes of success.
Both teams start the season this Saturday, Aug. 30th, in Spokane, Wash. where they will compete in the Clash of the Inland Northwest meet.
“The athletes are excited and energetic, which will make my job easier,” said Assistant Coach Travis Floeck. “They’re a great group.”
The teams this season are filled with young talent, having only two seniors per team. For the men, the seniors are Cody Helbling and Cayle Turpen. For the women, Helga Machleidt and Cortney Thomas. However, both team have many returners to help bring experience to the team. The men return 12 runners and the women return 13.
The Vandals will have a lot of chances to prove themselves this year with the level of talent they will compete against. The University of Washington Invite on Oct. 4th will be their biggest test as multiple top 25 teams will be there competing, including Oregon, Stanford and UCLA.
“We want to progress throughout the season and get better every race,” Floeck said. “Whatever our last meet of the year is we want that to be our best effort.”
