|Idaho women fall to USF|
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Idaho women's tennis team swept the doubles point, but dropped five of six singles matches in a 5-2 loss to the University of San Francisco on Thursday.
The loss drops Idaho to 16-7 on the season. The Vandals will wrap up their California trip with a Western Athletic Conference match against San Jose State in San Jose, Calif., at 11 a.m. on Friday.
"It's a disappointing loss," Idaho coach Dan Pollock said. "It's tough to play USF on their home courts in our first match in San Francisco. The girls played well in patches but needed to play well the whole time to win it. Hopefully this prepares us for a tough match against a San Jose State tomorrow."
The Vandals won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and 8-3 at No. 2, and an 8-7 win at No. 3 completed the doubles sweep to put Idaho ahead 1-0. However, only Almudena Sanz, who won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, could muster a singles victory for Idaho.
Idaho trailed 3-2 in the match when Victoria Lozano and Alejandra Lozano each forced a third set in their singles matches to give the Vandals a chance to win. But Victoria fell 6-2 in the third set at No. 1 and Alejandra fell 6-4 at No. 5.
After facing San Jose State, the Vandals will wrap up the regular season at home on April 22 at 10 a.m. against Louisiana Tech in WAC play. The WAC tournament is April 26-28 in Las Cruces, N.M.
