DES MOINES, Iowa - Three-time Missouri Valley Conference Champion Jon DeGrave (Lake Villa, Ill.) ran a meet record of 51.95 in the 400-meter hurdles at the Jim Duncan Invitational on Saturday.

The meet was not completed due to severe weather that rolled into the city around 4 p.m. The high school girls 3,000-meters, the high school boys 3,200-meters and the 4x400-meter relays for the boys, girls, men and women were not contested. During the meet, 21 meet records were broken.

DeGrave, who garnered honorable mention All-America accolades a year ago in the 400-meter hurdles, won the event by more than a second. Sophomore Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa) snared fourth in 54:08.

Junior Isaac Twombly (Baldwin, Kan.) broke the Drake school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 173 feet 3 inches en route to a second-place showing. His throw today bettered his old record of 171 feet 5 inches, which he set at the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Twombly was fourth in the discus (143-11), while sophomore Andy Curtis (Manchester, Iowa) was third (146-4).

Junior Charlie Lapham (Golden Valley, Minn.) claimed third in the 800 meters running a time of 1:51.28, which ranks second in the Valley. Senior Matt Jurysta (Oshawa, Canada) was sixth in 1:52.63.

Senior Shaun James (Lawrence, Kan.) claimed second in the 100 meters (10.95) and fifth in the 200 meters (22.14). Marsh was sixth in the 200 (22.25) while fellow sophomore Ian Wells (Champaign, Ill.) was ninth (22.55).

In the 1500-meter race, freshman Tyler Nelson (Lone Tree, Colo.) finished seventh (3:57.87) and sophomore Doug Brady (Cherrywood, Colo.) was ninth (3:59.39).

The Bulldogs remain in-state next weekend when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to take part in the Musco Twilight on Friday, April 20.
