Women's golf finishes 4th

BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. -- Senior Morgan Fitts moved into first place on the school’s career top-10 finishes list on Tuesday with the end of the CSU Bakersfield Spring Invitational.

Fitts fired rounds of 75, 77 and 77 (229) on the 6,200-yard, par-74 Bakersfield Country Club to finish in 3rd place.

Fitts also is now tied for 1st for top-10’s in a single season (3) in school history.

South Dakota State finished in 4th place as a team with scores of 321, 327 and 333 (981).

Freshman Brianna Janu posted rounds of 82, 83 and 83 (248) to finish in 16th place.

Sophomore Amber Houser was a stroke back of her teammate, finishing tied for 17th after rounds of 83, 82 and 84 (249).

Freshman Sydney MacDonald finished in 24th place with scores of 81, 85 and 90 (256) and sophomore Alli Plath placed 25th with rounds of 91, 85 and 89 (265).

Cal State Northridge captured the team title by 19 strokes, posting rounds of 309, 296 and 311(916). CSN’s Elisabeth Haavardsho was the top golfer for the tournament, carding rounds of 74, 67 and 78 (219) to win by four strokes.

The Jackrabbits took home some hardware of their own for the men's and women's combined winner. The trophy was awarded to the school with the top men's and women's combined finish.

Up next for the SDSU women’s golf team is the Challenge at Onion Creek, hosted by Texas State University. The Jacks will travel to Austin, Texas, for the tournament on April 1-2.
