Jacks finish 3rd in California
BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. -- The South Dakota State University men’s golf team shot a 297 in the final round of the CSU Bakersfield Spring Invitational on Tuesday, finishing in 3rd place.
The Jacks opened the tournament at the 6,804-yard, par-72 Bakersfield Country Club on Monday and wrapped up play Tuesday, posting scores of 301, 297 and 297 (895), three strokes behind host school CSU Bakersfield (294-287-311-892).
Dillon Schultz was the top Jackrabbit golfer, finishing in a tie for 4th place after rounds of 74, 74 and 73 (221). The 4th place finish is the first top-10 in Schultz’s career and also a personal best finish for the sophomore.
Senior Greg Fehrman finished tied for 14th place with rounds of 78, 74 and 78 (230).
Junior Lukas Davison had a three round total of 238, finishing in 20th place with rounds of 79, 78 and 81.
Eric Ash won a two-hole, sudden-death playoff to claim tournament champion honors. Ash posted scores of 71, 72 and 73 (216), helping Sonoma State capture the team champion trophy. Sonoma State won the invite by 10 strokes with scores of 294, 295 and 293 (882).
The Jackrabbits took home some hardware of their own for the men's and women's combined winner. The trophy was awarded to the school with the top men's and women's combined finish.
The Jacks have a short week before the next tourney on the schedule. They’ll head to Macomb, Ill., for the Beu/Mussatto Golf Tournament on March 29-30. Fellow Summit League member Western Illinois hosts the annual event.
