The Iona College women's basketball is in the midst of a nine-day international trip to Canada for a quintet of games and scrimmages against teams from the Ontario province.  To keep fans up to date with the action, a different member, or members, of the team will be blogging a daily report on

Hi Everyone. This is Haley D’Angelo, senior guard and captain of the Iona College women's basketball team. I am honored to represent Gaels basketball and extremely excited to begin a new year. After several tough practices and individual workouts getting ready for our trip to Canada, we finally began making our way up north today.

After departing from New Rochelle, we stopped for a relaxing stay in Cortland, NY.  Our resort had a number of different activities for us to explore, as the team spent the day ziplining and going to the indoor waterpark. The mountain rollercoaster by the zipline was by far the most popular attraction amongst the team, including our senior center Jiya Dorcas-Eya, who had the breaks on the entire time as she slowly made her way down the slopes. When we had time to check out the waterpark, we got a chance to try out the wave pool, three different water slides and the attached arcade. We ended the night with a great team dinner.

It has been enjoyable to see how our team has become unified off the court, but the real challenge exists when we get to play our first game of the trip against Brock University at 7:00 pm on Monday. It will be a great atmosphere to play in with our seven new freshmen as Brock is heavily promoting the game and expecting a large crowd. Tomorrow morning, we leave for a four hour bus ride to Niagara Falls. So be sure to stay tuned for Day 2 of our blog tomorrow!
