BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield's volleyball team hits the road again this weekend for its second tournament of the season. The Roadrunners will head to Brookings, S.D. for the Hampton Inn Jackrabbits Invitational hosted by South Dakota State, Sept. 1-2.
“We are getting more comfortable with each other and had a good week of practices,” said Giovana Melo, Director of Volleyball at CSUB. “We are excited to go battle this weekend. Every team has the exact same record, so, I am sure it will be very competitive.” All four teams in the tournament, CSUB, Valparaiso, South Dakota State, and Northern Arizona, indeed enter the weekend with a 1-2 record.
The `Runners will open the invitational with a doubleheader on Friday. CSUB will face off against Valparaiso and the close the day against host SDSU. Bakersfield will finish the tournament against Northern Arizona, the team that will host CSUB in a tournament the following weekend.
Valpo is led by Brittany Anderson who runs the offense to a tune of 8.0 assists per set. SDSU looks to Sierra Peterson to lead the way with 2.8 kills a set while NAU's Kaylie Jorgenson paces the Lumberjacks with 3.2 kills per set this season.
CSUB's first match on Friday is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. (CT) start in South Dakota. The `Runners will play SDSU at 7 p.m. (CT) on Friday before closing the tournament on Saturday against NAU at 1 p.m. (CT).
