NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield broke a season long beach volleyball losing streak as the Roadrunners split a pair of duals Thursday at CSUN.

CSUN edged CSUB 3-2 in the opener. Kristey Markle and Autumn Russell defeated Emily Lopes and Kayla Tinker 21-16, 21-16 at No. 4 to begin the dual. Maddie Leiphardt and Nicki Williams handed Jocelyn Rodriguez and Madi Busler a 21-19, 21-15 in the No. 2 match.  Aeryn Owens and Erin Indermill won in straight sets at No. 3 against Sarah Garrow and Ashley Prater to clinch the dual in favor of CSUN.

Carol Grasso and Sara Little defeated Julie Haake and Katie Soto 21-19, 21-16 to get the ‘Runners on the board. Hannah Manzanares and Fabiana Andrade wrapped up the meet with a 23-25, 21-18, 15-9 victory at No. 5 against Nico Stork and Nicolette Pinkney.

The ‘Runners defeated Cal State LA (0-9) 5-0 in the nightcap. Grasso and Little (No. 1), Rodriguez and Busler (No. 2), Garrow and Pratter (No. 3), Tinker and Emily Lopes (No. 4), and Andrade and Manzanares (No. 5) were all victorious in straight sets.

“We had our most consistent day of the season today,” said CSUB head coach Cesar Benatti. “Even though we lost to CSUN, we competed with them in all of the matches. Against Cal State LA, we executed all of the things that we have been training over the last two months. I’m happy with the team’s evolution and look forward to getting even better next week as we prepare for the Big West Tournament.”

The Roadrunners (1-13) travel to Los Angeles next Thursday for a tri-dual. The day begins at 12 p.m. against No. 5 Long Beach State before wrapping up against No. 1 USC at 4 p.m. The USC dual is going to be televised on Pac-12 Networks. Check your local provider for listings.
