BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Nearly halfway through the 2017 season, CSU Bakersfield’s softball team is prepared to begin the final stretch of its non-conference slate. The Roadrunners will head to San Diego, Calif. for a three-game series, Mar. 18-19, against San Diego.

The Toreros will welcome CSUB to Southern California with a 9-11 record after dropping a midweek game to Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday. San Diego fell to the Titans by a score of 7-0. This season, sophomore outfielder Taylor Spence has led San Diego with a .406 batting average while a pair of Toreros led the team with three home runs each.

CSU Bakersfield enters the week with a 3-14 record after going 1-4 at the CSUN/LMU Tournament last weekend against tough competition. The lone ‘Runner win came against Bryant as CSUB took a 6-3 victory behind Chris Hipa’s three RBI.

Sophomore infielder Nadia Amezcua has paced the ‘Runners this year, batting .364 with a team-high slugging percentage of .500. Junior Maddi Clark leads CSUB with eight RBI this season while outfielder Josie Flores is one behind. Junior transfer Summer Evans has been the most effective pitcher for the ‘Runners, going 3-5 in the circle with a team-best 4.42 ERA.

Saturday’s doubleheader in San Diego starts at 12 p.m. while Sunday’s single game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. first pitch. Live stats will be available for all games this weekend and links can be found at the CSUB softball schedule page.
