Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb women's basketball head coach Rick Reeves has announced that former Runnin' Bulldog standout Dominique Hudson will join his staff as an assistant coach in June 2012.

Hudson, who helped lead Gardner-Webb to its first-ever Women's Basketball NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010-11 and its first-ever WNIT appearance in 2009-10, returns to the women's basketball program having played for Coach Reeves and the Runnin' Bulldogs from 2007-11.

Hudson will work primarily with the perimeter players, as well as help with the offense.

"From January of Dominique's sophomore season, I felt that the light bulb went on and she really understood our system here at GWU. From then on, the next two and a half years she was the best point guard in the Big South Conference," stated Coach Reeves. "Dom knows our system, knows Gardner-Webb and knows our program. We are extremely excited to have her join the staff and I know she will do a great job working with our guards and perimeter players. Not only is she an alumni, as the tradition of former players returning to coach under me at their alma mater continues, but she is a first-class Christian young woman and we are thrilled to have her back at Gardner-Webb."

The two-time Big South All-Conference First-Team selection and the three-time Big South All-Tournament honoree was tabbed the 2011 Big South Women's Basketball Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player as she led the Runnin' Bulldogs to their first-ever postseason conference championship.

Hudson, who was also a two-time North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association First-Team University Division All-State Team recipient and a 2007-08 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team honoree, graduated with a degree in Sport Management in August 2011.

"I am really happy to be back at my alma mater," stated Hudson. "I am excited to be starting my coaching career at Gardner-Webb and with Coach Reeves. I feel like I can help continue to build on the strong foundation of the women's basketball program now from the sidelines as a coach, like I did a few years back as a player."

Hudson finished her career as GWU's Division I all-time leading scorer with 1,407 career points, which also ranks fifth overall all-time in GWU history. Hudson also finished her career as GWU's DI career assists leader with 579 career assists and steals leader with 244 career thefts. She ranks first in GWU's DI career record book in games played (129), minutes played (3,545) and free throws made (419) and second in GWU DI history in most games started (102), third in field goals made (443) and fifth in three-pointers made (102).
