ASHEVILLE, N.C. – With the game tied at two goals apiece with just over two minutes to go, Wofford midfielder Maureen Buff took a cross from teammate Alex Hoots and scored the game winner to give the Terriers a 3-2 victory over UNC Asheville on Friday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

With the victory Wofford stays undefeated at 3-0 on the year while the Bulldogs drop to 2-1 with the setback.

The two teams battled back and forth throughout the contest, as Annika Jansson broke the scoreless tie in the 31st minute to put the Terriers up 1-0 on a shot from 20 yards out. Asheville evened the match at 1-1 when Caroline Houser ran down a through ball from the defense and buried it in the back of the net in the 34th minute.

Wofford would retake the lead three minutes later when Katie Beuerline finished a cross from teammate Brianna LaFontant to put the Terriers up 2-1.

The Terriers took a one goal lead into the half.

Asheville tied the game up in the 55th minute when Kaitlyn Eckert redirected a free kick from Amanda Dailor past the goalkeeper for the Bulldogs second goal of the contest and the first of the season for Eckert.

Both teams had chances going back and forth the rest of the way before Buff’s game-winner sealed the deal for the Terriers in the 88th minute.

The Bulldogs will look to get back to their winning ways on Sunday when they host Mars Hill University at Greenwood Field. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. between the two schools, with the UNC Asheville men hosting Brevard immediately following the women’s match.
