Canisius women’s basketball coach Terry Zeh has announced the signing of Cassidy Crowe (Sarnia, Ontario) and Abby Schwenk (New Holland, Ohio) to National Letters of Intent. The two student-athletes will join the Golden Griffin women’s basketball program starting with the 2014-15 season.
Crowe, a 5-foot-10 guard, has played for four seasons at Sarnia Northern, earning team and league MVP honors three times. Crowe has been a member of Team Ontario’s development program, capturing a silver medal at the 2013 OFSAA Championships. She also has competed in the 400-meter hurdles for the Vikings.
“Cassidy is a great athlete who can shoot from the outside and score at the basket. Her ability to defend and anticipate passes will really help us on the defensive end,” Zeh said. “Cassidy has great passion for the game of basketball.”
Schwenk, a 6-foot-1 forward, has played four years at Miami Trace High School. She earned All-League, Second-Team All-District and honorable mention All-State honors during her junior season. She also has played three years of tennis at the school, earning All-League honors.
“We are really excited about adding Abby. Her inside-outside game fits well with how we play offense,” Zeh said. “She has the ability to score on the block and also facing up. In addition, Abby is an outstanding student.”
Canisius returns to the court on Monday, when the Golden Griffins wrap up their non-conference schedule at the University of Vermont. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
