NEWTON, Mass. – Eighth-ranked Duke (14-5, 3-3 ACC) faces top-ranked Maryland for the second time in as many weeks Friday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. in the semifinals of the ACC Championship in Newton, Mass. The Blue Devils earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament and advanced to the semifinals with a 2-1 victory over No. 5 seed Virginia in the quarterfinals.

Maryland Series History
Friday’s ACC semifinal contest marks the 43rd all-time meeting between Duke and Maryland with the Terrapins holding a 31-8-3 advantage in the series ... The two ACC squads met earlier this season with Maryland claiming a 5-1 victory in the regular season finale Nov. 2 in Durham ... The Blue Devils are 1-6 in program history when facing Maryland in the ACC Tournament.

Last Time We Met
Duke fired 17 shots including 11 on goal but fell to the top-ranked Terrapins 5-1 in the regular season finale at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium ... Senior Emmie Le Marchand registered the Blue Devils’ lone goal on a penalty stroke in the 65th minute ... Despite the score Maryland held just a one-shot advantage at the end of the match while Duke led in penalty corners 8-7.

Scouting the Terrapins
Top-ranked and top-seeded Maryland (18-1) received a  bye in the first round of the ACC Championship ... Senior forward Jill Witmer ranked second in the ACC in points per game (2.31) and goals per game (0.94) entering the tournament while teammate Anna Dessoye was second in the league and tied for third nationally in assists per game (0.79) ... Dessoye had two goals and one assist against the Blue Devils in the regular seaosn matchup ... Natalie Hunter led all ACC goalkeepers and was top-five nationally in goals against average (1.04) and save percentage (.810) heading into the tournament.

Duke in the ACC Championship
The Blue Devils own an all-time record of 16-30 in the conference tournament while making three trips to the title match (1990, 2003, 2011) ... Duke is 3-16 all-time in semifinal contests ... The 2011 ACC Championship saw the squad advance to the final with a 3-2 victory over the Cavaliers in the first round and a 2-1 win against Maryland in the semifinals ...
