Seven home games highlight the 2013 Canisius College men’s soccer schedule, released by head coach Dermot McGrane on Tuesday.
The Griffs open the 2013 campaign on the road at Bucknell on Aug. 30. Canisius also plays at St. Francis (Pa.) on Sept. 1 before returning to Buffalo face UMass Lowell in its home opener on Sept. 8.
Canisius also hosts Robert Morris (Sept. 15) in non-conference action, while playing at Buffalo (Sept. 11), Western Michigan (Sept. 20), Detroit (Sept. 22) and St. Bonaventure (Sept. 29).
The Griffs begin their quest for a MAAC Championship on Oct. 5, hosting Manhattan. Canisius also welcomes conference foes Siena (Oct. 16), Niagara (Oct. 30), Iona (Nov. 2) and Monmouth (Nov. 9) to the Demske Sports Complex, while playing at Marist (Oct. 9), Fairfield (Oct. 12), Quinnipiac (Oct. 19), Saint Peter’s (Oct. 26) and Rider (Nov. 6).
The top four teams in the regular-season standings qualify for the 2013 MAAC Tournament, held on the campus of Fairfield. The semifinals are slated for Nov. 15 with the title game scheduled for Nov. 17.
The Griffs return seven starters and 19 letterwinners from the 2012 team that completed one of the most successful seasons in the program’s history. The team received votes in the national poll for the first time in school history and reached as high as second in the NSCAA North Atlantic poll. In addition, Canisius finished the campaign with eight wins (tied for the most in school history against Division I competition) and over .500 for the first time since 1987.
