After winning its third-straight MAAC Championship, the Canisius College women’s lacrosse team is set to face Penn State in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The Griffs and Nittany Lions, who are seeded seventh in the 26-team bracket, are set to square off in State College, Pa. on Friday.

The winner of the contest will then advance to face either Massachusetts or Connecticut on Sunday on Penn State’s campus.

Canisius earned the MAAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament on Sunday after a 10-9 victory against Marist in the conference’s title game. Canisius became the first school in conference history to win three-straight MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championships and are 14-4 overall this season. The 14 wins are tied for the most in school history.

Penn State earned an at-large bid out of the American Lacrosse Conference. The Nittany Lions are 12-6 on the season and were ranked eighth in the latest IWLCA coaches poll.

The schools are meeting for the first time in women’s lacrosse.
