UTSA to face San Jose State in WAC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday

SAN ANTONIO — Seventh-seeded UTSA will take on No. 2 seed San Jose State on Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CT) at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver, Colo.

The Roadrunners (7-12) finished seventh in the WAC regular season standings with a 2-6 mark. UTSA has won two of its last three matches, including a 4-0 decision against Seattle in the regular-season finale on April 13.

Isabelle Jonsson and Jacobea Junger both have 10 wins apiece in singles action to pace the Birds. Junger and teammate Daniela Garcia-Diaz make up the most-successful doubles pairing with seven victories at the second position.

Meanwhile, the No. 65 Spartans (16-5) posted an 8-1 record in league play to finish in second place.

San Jose State, which has won seven of its last eight outings, is led by Klaudio Boczova in singles play. The Bratislava, Slovakia, native is the nation's 53rd-ranked player and she owns a 13-3 mark at the top spot, including a perfect 5-0 record in league action. Meanwhile, Magot Charron and Sabastian Leon Chao have netted 9-2 mark at No. 1 doubles.

The Spartans recorded a 4-1 victory against UTSA on April 12 in Moscow, Idaho. San Jose State claimed all of its points in singles action, while the Roadrunners picked up their lone win on Irene Gandara Gonzalez's straight-set victory against Amber Walker at No. 6 singles.

UTSA is making its second consecutive trip to the conference tournament under seventh-year head coach Erin Scott.
