PRIMM, Nev. -
The Western Illinois men's golf team concluded action in the 2012 Summit League Championships Tuesday afternoon (April 24), finishing sixth as a team with a three-round score of 865 (285, 292, 288).

Junior Leatherneck Ben Kilborn paced Western with a team-best score of 211 (73, 69, 69). The junior finished tied for fourth overall, jumping up five spots after being tied for ninth heading into the final round.

"Ben has been playing well the whole spring season," stated head coach Mel Blasi. "He has been our most consistent player and to see him have a really good tournament was nice."

"He was great all tournament and he did the little things that you need to do to score low. I am really happy for him, he has put a lot of hard work and it is nice to see it pay off for him."

After posting a 75 in the third and final round, senior golfer Tim Harwood dropped from being tied for sixth-place after day one, to finishing tied for 14th, tallying a total score of 216 (69, 72, 75).

Rounding out Western's team score were senior's Andrew Godfrey and Kurt Slattery who finished tied for 28th and tied for 34th, respectively. Godfrey finished with a score of 220 (73, 75, 72), while Slattery carded a total score of 222 (70, 80, 72).

Nate Davis concluded the conference championships with a score of 225 (74, 76, 75), placing 40th overall.

"Overall, we were a few shots every round from really being strong. The first round really hurt us because we could not finish that round the way we wanted to."

Earning the Summit League crown was the IUPUI Jaguars who finished with a tournament-low 849 (265, 291, 293), and boasted the the top-two individual performances in Michael Davan who finished first overall with a score of 205, and Ben Engle who finished second with a score of 207.

"Those seniors will probably look back and say they could have been lower but you can always say that. It will be tough to lose those seniors but it was nice to get a freshman in there. We have some solid pieces returning and I am excited to see what we can build."
