Volleyball Holds 2011 Team Banquet

HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 9, 2012 – The James Madison volleyball team held its team banquet on Jan. 28, 2012 to celebrate the team’s achievements for the 2011 season. The players, coaches, family members and some team administrators and officials gathered in the Montpelier Room of the East Campus Dining Hall. 

The night’s festivities included recognition of each of the team’s seniors and non-returning players and a recap of the year’s events. 

The 2011 JMU volleyball team went 20-11 overall and 8-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association. It won its first CAA tournament game since 2007 with a 3-0 sweep of Georgia State in the quarterfinals and took eventual conference champion Delaware to five sets in the semifinals. The Dukes became the first team since 1999-2000 to post back-to-back 20-plus win seasons. 

Redshirt junior outside hitter Natalie Abel (Washington, Pa./Trinity) earned First Team All-CAA honors and was also named the VaSID State Player of the Year. Junior outside hitter Danielle Erb (Tampa, Fla./Plant) added Third Team All-CAA recognitions while redshirt freshman setter Kristi Richardson (Glen Allen, Va./Hermitage) was named to the CAA All-Rookie team.
