FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Old Dominion women’s golf team finished in third at the 2019 C-USA Championship at the Verandah Club in Fort Myers, Florida. ODU posted a final round 295 (+7) to finish behind UTSA and Charlotte.
ODU entered the final round in the lead by one stroke over the Roadrunners. UTSA carded a final round 281 to win the title for the second-straight year. The 49ers finished one stroke ahead of ODU.
"Hats off to UTSA, they played incredible today and shot a tournament record -10. We knew we were going to need our best stuff to win and we just didn't have it today," said head coach Mallory Hetzel.
Individually, Charlotte De Corte also finished as the third place finisher and a member of the All-Tournament Team. De Corte fired an even par 72 on Wednesday, which marked her third round of par or better in the tournament. The senior also collected her best finish individually of the 2018-19 season. Playing in her first conference tournament as a Monarch, Jana Melichova carded a one-over 74 to finish in a tie for 10th. Senior Abigail Portyrata posted an even par round 72 on Wednesday to finish in a tie for 22nd along with Leah Onosato. Onosato finished her tournament with a 79. Finishing in a tie for 36th, Sana Tufail closed the C-USA Tournament with a five-over 77.
UTSA’s Ana Gonzalez (-9) earned individual medalist honors.
"The best news is that our season will continue and we have more golf to play. The ultimate goal of advancing from the NCAA Regionals to the finals is still possible. We have an amazing team and I know we will come back from today and finish strong."
The NCAA field will be announced live on the Golf Channel beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24.
