Tritons 5th, Two Players in Top 20 at UCSB Intercollegiate

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Following Monday's two rounds at the UCSB Intercollegiate, the University of California San Diego men's golf team is fifth of eight and two Tritons are among the top-20 players. UC Santa Barbara is hosting the 54-hole tournament at Sandpiper.

UC San Diego carded a 292 (+4) in round one and followed with an even par 288 in the second for a total of 580 strokes.

A pair of juniors is leading the way for the Tritons thus far. Adam Navigato (Solana Beach/Torrey Pines HS) is tied for 13th at 1 over par and Hayden Hui is tied for 18th at 2 over. Navigato shot 73-72--145, while Hui went 74-72--146 on the par 72, 7,062-yard layout.

Also in the 55-player field for UC San Diego are freshman Elliot Bunyaviroch (T-28, 71-77--148), junior Jacob Johnson (T-28, 75-73--148), sophomore Ryan Vaughan (T-28, 77-71--148), and junior Justin Woo (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) (74-75--149).

The field is comprised of six NCAA Division I teams and two NCAA Division II teams.

UC Santa Barbara, which was in last place after shooting a 294 (+6) in the opening round, now leads the field as it fired a 274 (-14) in the second. Weber State (575) is seven strokes back in second place and Cal State Monterey Bay (576), ranked 17th nationally in DII, is third.

Atop the individual leader board is Tomas Helgo from CSUN, who is 6 under with a 138 after going 67-71.

The third and final round of play gets underway Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. Play can be followed with live results.
