Elijah Hutchins-Everett talks to HG Insider on his Southern Jam-Fest experience & more
Class of 2020 big man Elijah Hutchins-Everett is one of the bigger names at the Southern Jam Fest for the 16u level. With his talent and potential he has the likes of Syracuse, Villanova and more actively recruiting him. With We R1 being one of the most talented teams on the east coast, they have high aspirations for this season.
Q: What’s it been like playing with WeR1? It looks like you guys have built up a lot of chemistry?
A: “It’s great playing with them and we share the ball we don’t care who scores. The only thing we are here for is to get the win, play defense and just play together and have fun.”
Q: What do your coaches expect from you on the court?
A: “They all expect me to dominate and do anything to help my team. They don’t care if I score all of the time. They just want me to be productive and just play my game.”
Q: What would you say the biggest difference between you this year from last year?
A: “I’m trying to prove that I’m one of the best players out here. I’ve been working hard this season and have been playing for two hours after school every day. I’ve been trying to prove myself since I came over here.”
Q: You are becoming more of a complete player with how well you are shooting the ball. Is this something you have been working on?
A: “I’ve started to put a lot more arc on my shot and have worked on my touch. I just have a lot more confidence in myself.”
Q: What guys at the higher level have you tried to emulate your game after?
A: “I’ve tried to emulate Anthony Davis, the most dominant player out there. He doesn’t care who he’s playing against, he is going to get a triple-double every time he plays.
Q: If you were to describe your game to someone. What would you tell them?
A: “I would say I’m an all-around player. I can shoot, pass and also play defense. I also have improved on how I’m dribbling the ball.”
Q: You have won your first game here. With it being such a high level event, how will it prepare you for the rest of the year?
A: “It means a lot to play in this because this is one of the best tournaments in the country. There is a lot of great talent with a lot of scouts here. It’s a good opportunity to play here in front of everybody. I think this will help us a lot."
