NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware baseball was denied a series sweep of the UNCW Seahawks Sunday afternoon, falling 10-0 at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The Blue Hens (17-15, 5-4 CAA) managed just a Kevin Mohollen line-drive single off of UNCW (21-14, 5-4 CAA) starter Gage Herring who throw six shutout innings.

Delaware freshman Chris Ludman drew his first career start Sunday, pitching the first five innings for the Blue Hens allowing three runs (two earned). The freshman struck out three batters.

Down just 3-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth, Delaware allowed seven unearned runs over the final three innings of play as field conditions and weather began to become a factor.

In the ninth, Mohollen walked and second baseman Erik Bowren doubled with nobody out, but Delaware couldn’t cut into the UNCW advantage.

With the loss, the Hens saw a four-game winning streak snapped.

Delaware returns to action Tuesday night for the Liberty Bell Classic Championship game at Citizens Bank Park. First pitch between the Blue Hens and Layfette is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Head coach Jim Sherman

We knew that after the first two games of the series that UNCW was going to come out and be focused. They dropped the first two and they wanted to salvage one of the three games. And they played a good ballgame. Credit their starter he was really sharp, and they got timely hitting. We ran out of gas a bit here today and we didnt have any answers. In the bottom of the sixth, we were right in the game, down just 3-0. We couldn't come up with anyone hitters or baserunners. While we would have loved to win today, we'll a take a series win in any conference series."

On where the team sits after three series:
"I would like to be 6-3 up to this point, so we're one game under that pace. We just need to continue to grind out games and find ways to win. We have the Liberty Bell Final Tuesday which is always fun then we host a good St. Joseph's team, before another important CAA series against JMU."
