NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware softball team dropped a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader to Hofstra, 6-0 and 13-5, Saturday afternoon at sun-splashed UD Softball Stadium.

The Pride (27-8, 11-0 CAA) scored a run during the top of the first of the opener on an RBI double by Brielle Pietrafesa, before Megan Patierno hit a solo homer in the second. Michaela Transue added an RBI single in the fifth, while Pietrafesa drilled a three-run homer in the seventh to close the scoring.

Hofstra pitcher Sarah Cornell fired a two-hit shutout while striking out 10 batters. Giovanna Kolofer and Mariah Kondravy had the two hits for Delaware (10-27, 2-9 CAA).

Brittany Allocca belted a two-run homer for the Pride in the first inning of the nightcap, but the Blue Hens answered right back in the bottom half as Reyna de Jesus singled home a run before Kondravy scored on an error to knot the game at 2-2.

Anna Steinmetz singled home Kolofer in the second frame while de Jesus followed with a sacrifice fly to give Delaware a 4-2 lead. However the Pride erupted for nine runs in the top of the third to put the game away. Hofstra added runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings, while the Blue Hens’ final run came in the bottom of the fifth when Kolofer singled home Alyshia Dellatore.

• Kolofer and Kondravy each finished the day with four hits, while Steinmetz added a pair
• Kondravy now has 221 career hits, 18 shy of the school record
Jordan Cargile suffered the loss in the opener for UD, while Sarah Piening dropped the nightcap
• The teams conclude the weekend series with a single game on Sunday beginning at 12 noon
