SOUTHPORT, N.C. – The University of Delaware women’s golf team fired a 305 score during Friday’s opening round at the CAA Championship, ending the day in second place out of nine squads.

College of Charleston leads the field with a 299 score, while the Blue Hens are six shots back. UNCW sits in third place at 307, while Towson is fourth at 315.

UD sophomore Ariane Klotz and freshman Thitaree Sakulbunpanich each carded two over par rounds of 74 on the par 72, 6,066-yard Reserve Club course at St. James Plantation, finishing the day tied for second place. Laura Gomez of James Madison leads the way with an even par 72, while four players are two shots behind.

Klotz posted five birdies during her round on Friday, while Sakulbunpanich added two birdies and 13 pars.

Ashley Dingman is tied for 11th place after carding a five over par 77, while Valentina Mueller shot an eight over par 80 and is tied for 23rd place. Isabella Rimton, who fired a 17 over par 89, is tied for 35th place at the tournament.

The three-round championship continues on Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. start.
