BALTIMORE, Md. – The Delaware men’s tennis team is off to its best start in 22 years following Saturday’s 6-1 victory over Coppin State.
The Blue Hens are 9-2 to open the year for the first time since the 1995-96 campaign in which UD finished the year 14-4 overall while placing second in the North Atlantic Conference.
The Hens kicked off play ahead, 1-0, for the fourth consecutive match by sweeping doubles competition.
In singles play, senior Asdrubal Marcano (Kralendijk, Bonaire/Sagemont (Fla.)) gave Delaware the 2-0 advantage by topping Gabriel Franca, 6-2, 6-1, in the fourth flight.
Sophomore Milo Nagle (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) followed with his first career singles victory in a Blue Hens uniform with a 6-1, 6-0 No. 5 singles victory over Zaipo Oula.
Fellow sophomore Luis Marcano (Kralendijk, Bonaire/Sagemont (Fla.)) clinched the team win in the third flight with a 6-2, 6-2 win versus Andres Diaz while classmate Dominick Perez (Bethesda, Md./Gonzaga College) wrapped play with his seventh straight win, a 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory over Gavin Lewis in the second flight.

“Being that this was our first match outside, we played pretty well. We will continue to use the confidence we are gaining as we prepare for Penn next week.”
   ·   The Blue Hens have won seven straight for the first time since October 2000.
   ·   Delaware is off to a 9-2 start for the first time since opening 9-2 during the 1995-96 campaign.
   ·   The Hens are 42-23 (.646) in singles dual matches and 21-10 (.677) in doubles dual matches this season.
