Josh King joined the Monarch family in July 2017 as an Athletic Academic Advisor and Student-Athlete Development Coordinator. In his role as an athletic academic advisor, King works with four Monarch teams, including football (defense), men’s golf, rowing, and women’s golf. In his role as student-athlete development coordinator, King assists with SAAC, the Monarch Crown Challenge, and several other aspects of the Monarch PRIDE Student-Athlete Development program.
King previously worked at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi from May 2015–July 2017. King joined the Islanders Athletics family in the spring of 2015 as the department's Compliance and Student-Athlete Services Coordinator. In his initial role, he assisted with day-to-day operations of the compliance program, including monitoring, initial eligibility, and education for Islanders student-athletes, coaches, and staff. He also oversaw the Islander Cup and Islander Athlete Mentor programs for the department, and served as the Scholastic Coordinator for Women's Soccer. In the summer of 2016, King was promoted to Compliance Coordinator and coordinated the day-to-day operations of the compliance program, including monitoring, initial and continuing eligibility, and rules education for Islander student-athletes, coaches, and staff. He was also the main liaison with on-campus housing as well as assisting with financial aid for Islander student-athletes.
King earned both his master's degree (2014) and bachelor's degree (2013) in Sport Management from the University of South Carolina. During his undergraduate years, King worked as a student-manager for four years with the men's basketball team under Coach Frank Martin, serving as head manager in his final two years. During this time, King assisted with day-to-day operations in the basketball office, practices, travel, and team meals. During graduate school, King interned in the Office of Compliance Services, assisting with day-to-day operations, including monitoring and education for Gamecock student-athletes and coaches.
Josh and his wife, Natalie, have two dogs and reside in Portsmouth.
