HANOVER, N.H. — Columbia was dealt a three-set loss at the hands of Dartmouth (18-25, 15-25, 17-25) Friday night in Ivy League volleyball action at Leede Arena.
Columbia (5-6, 0-2 Ivy) had a 9-8 lead in the first set, only to see Dartmouth (5-6, 1-1 Ivy) score the next four points to go in front. Once ahead, the Big Green never gave the lead back and capped a 12-4 run with back-to-back aces by Zoe Leonard to pull away with the set. Dartmouth led wire-to-wire to win the second by 10 points and scored eight of the final 10 points in the third set to put away the match.
The Lions suffered season-lows in kills (20), hitting percentage (.047), assists (25), aces (2), blocks (3) and points (30.0). Sophomore Chichi Ikwuazom highlighted the night with seven kills and .312 attacking percentage. Sophomore libero Kalie Wood registered a match-high 13 digs.
For Dartmouth, Mallen Bischoff generated 11 kills to lead all players. Bischoff hit .310 and was one of four Big Green players to hit above .300 with at least five kills. Carly Tower hit a team-best .429 and setter Tori Dozier led the match with 30 assists. Dartmouth ended the evening with 40 kills and a .221 team hitting percentage.
Columbia will look to rebound quickly, traveling to Harvard on Saturday. First serve from the Malkin Athletic Center is set for 5 p.m. The match will air on the Ivy League Network.
