PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The University of Delaware women’s golf team finished in second place while three Blue Hens placed among the top seven individuals as UD opened its 2017 fall season this weekend at the Rutgers Invitational.

Delaware fired a 299 score during Sunday’s final round to finish in second place out of 11 squads with a 911 total, narrowly falling short of its third straight Rutgers Invitational team crown. Georgetown, which also carded a 299 on Sunday, claimed the title with a 909 score.

Blue Hen sophomore Josefina Fernandez-Davila posted the lowest round of her career by firing a two under par 70 on Sunday on the par 72, 6,041-yard Rutgers Golf Course, tying for second place in the individual standings with an eight over par 78-76-70-224. Fernandez-Davila carded an eagle on the fourth hole, to go with two birdies and 13 pars on the day.

Valentina Mueller carded a two over par 74 during her final round to finish at nine over par 75-76-74-225, as she tied for fourth place to post the highest result of her career. Ariane Klotz shot a 76 on Sunday, placing seventh with a 12 over par 77-75-76-228.

Ashley Dingman tied for 18th place with a 19 over par 77-79-79-235, while Isabella Rimton fired a 28 over par 84-78-82-244 to tie for 34th place. Playing as an individual, Kylie Greulich tied for 56th place by shooting a 45 over par 87-84-90-261.

Alexa Popowitz of Georgetown was the tournament medalist by finishing at three over par, while Ashleigh Greenham of Rutgers and Fernandez-Davila each finished five shots back.

Delaware returns to action on Sept. 23-24 when the Blue Hens compete in the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational in State College, Pa.
