Zak Kent's Career Stats

2019: Drafted in the ninth round by the Texas Rangers … earned second-team all-state honors … finished the 2019 season with a 4.64 ERA and a 5-5 record with one save in 15 games and 14 starts … led the Southern Conference and ranked ninth in the nation with 132 strikeouts on the year - also a school record … opponents’ hit just .229 against him … allowed only 30 walks in 97 innings … Moved into fourth place in career strikeouts (218) with 11 Ks in a 5-4 complete game win at Wofford 4/13 … threw eight shutout innings vs. ETSU on 4/7 in a 6-0 win with 12 Ks - earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week for the second time … struck out 14 over 8.2 IP in 5-4 win vs. Samford (3/31)...struck out 60 batters in March (36 IP) … tied a school record with 15 strikeouts vs. Lehigh on 3/17, 7 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 ER - named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week twice … struck out 13 batters, including four in the third inning, against Binghamton on 3/10. He allowed just four hits and no walks … helped set a school record for more strikeouts in a game, had nine K’s in 4 1/3 innings in a start against Northern Kentucky.

2018: Finished the year 5-5 with a 5.88 ERA as a sophomore...served as VMI's Saturday starter...pitched four solid innings in season-finale against top-seeded UNCG in SoCon Tournament...issued a season-high six walks and took the loss 5/12 vs. Wofford...winning pitcher on staff day 5/2 vs. Old Dominion...allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings (7 K’s) in no-decision at Mercer 4/28...allowed four runs, three earned, in five-plus innings at ETSU 4/8...evened his record at 3-3 with 6 2/3 IP of two-run ball 3/31 vs. The Citadel...allowed only one hit after the first inning in a 7 1/3 IP, 2 ER effort at UNCG 3/23 (no-decision)...struck out 11 in 3/3 win over Oakland - became the first VMI pitcher - other than Josh Winder - to have a double-digit K game since 2014 (Garrett)...pitched six shutout innings without a walk 2/23 vs. Lafayette.

2017: Finished the year 2-4 with a 7.64 ERA...allowed seven runs in just 1/3 of an inning 5/14 vs. Furman...made his first career weekend start 5/7 vs. UNCG, took the loss...pitched two scoreless innings at Radford 4/29...struggled in relief 4/21 at WCU, giving up nine runs in two innings...went 2-0 with a 2.28 ERA in his next 22 2/3 IP after 3/14 ODU struggles...had the best outing of his career 4/18 at VCU, when he took a shutout into the sixth (longest outing of his career at the time)...pitched four innings in start 4/4 vs. Longwood, allowed one run and K'd five to tie career-high...first Keydet pitcher to get the win in back to back midweek starts since 2013 (T. Lighton)...earned his second straight win in the midweek 3/28 at JMU - 4 1/3 IP, 0 earned runs...rebounded from 3/14 outing to get the win 3/21 vs. UR - 4 1/3 IP, 2 R...failed to record an out 3/14 vs. Old Dominion, took the loss...took the loss 3/4 against George Washington...started the game Feb. 21 vs. UVA...allowed one run on one hit in 3 2/3 IP...made his collegiate debut with a scoreless inning against Appalachian State Feb. 18.

High School/Personal: Listed as the 33rd-best RHP in Virginia by Perfect Game during junior season...finished with Second Team all-conference honors as a third baseman...also earned all-academic honors...member of Richmond Braves travel team...Perfect Game USA All-Tournament Team...Battle of the Borders Most Outstanding Pitcher...Triple Crown All-Star Team...2014 1A State Champion...Beta Club...hit .315 and posted a 1.96 ERA in 2014...returned the next season to strike out 50 in 34 1/3 IP...lettered three years in football and one in golf.
