LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that 752 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 season and the University of New Mexico Lobo volleyball team earned a spot on the list. The Lobos finished with a 3.32 cumulative GPA for the 2014-15 academic year among the 146 Division I schools.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

“This is a great acknowledgment of our commitment to our total program,” said head coach Jeff Nelson. “Our student-athletes work very hard and I am proud of them and this achievement.”

The Lobos open up the 2015 season on the road, traveling to Muncie, Indiana to face Belmont, Albany and tournament host Ball State. The first home match will take place on Sept. 4 against Santa Clara. For the full schedule, click here.
