The Stetson men’s tennis team defeated Niagara by a score of 6-1 on Monday afternoon to improve to 3-3 on the season.

Stetson opened things up by sweeping the doubles play.  Freshman Graham Ball and junior Nathan Debut won 8-2 at number three, sophomore Laurynas Antropikas and junior Chester Espie won 8-7 (7-5) at number two, and senior Hans Adrian Riseng and sophomore Cahit Kapukiran won 8-5 at number one to earn the Hatters the point.

“Our intensity in doubles was good today," Stetson associate head coach Christophe Noblet said. "With the wind picking up and Niagara offering great resistance, I am happy with the way we maintained focus to get the doubles point.”

The Hatters continued to play in singles action, winning five of six matches. Debut won 6-2, 6-1 at the number two position and Kapukiran won 6-3, 6-4 at number three to extend Stetson’s advantage to 3-0.

Riseng then clinched the victory for Stetson, winning 6-3, 6-3 at number six to make it 4-0 with three matches to play.

Ball won 7-5, 6-3 at number five and Espie won 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-1) to put the match at 6-0 in favor of the Hatters.  Antropikas was defeated by David Raymond 6-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-5) to make the final score 6-1.

“Our attention is now on Wednesday," Noblet said. "South Alabama is always a strong team to compete against and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
