FARGO, N.D. - Former North Dakota State infielder Zach Wentz has signed a professional contract with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, the American Association club announced today.

Wentz, who played first base his first two seasons and third base his last two seasons at NDSU, joined the RedHawks for today's game at the St. Paul Saints.

Wentz made all 60 starts and hit .317 with 13 doubles, five homers and 41 RBIs this season for NDSU.  He was an All-Summit League second team third baseman and a Capital One Academic All-America® first team selection.

The Bismarck, N.D., product was a .334 hitter over four seasons and left NDSU as the career leader in games played (208), at-bats (805), hits (269), doubles (58) and defensive chances (1119).

He finished second in total bases (389) and walks (76), fourth in runs scored (139), fifth in RBIs (133) seventh in fielding (.983) and 10th in home runs (20).

Wentz is the 16th Bison player to join the RedHawks and the 13th to start his professional career with the team.  The last was right-handed pitcher Josh Smith in 2010.

Left-handed pitcher Jake Laber and bench coach Kole Zimmerman, a catcher and outfielder at NDSU, are the only former Bison players still with the RedHawks.
