CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston sailing team had five sailors named to the 2012 Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) All-America Team.

Junior skipper Mac Mace (Newport Beach, Calif.) led the way by earning his second career All-American nod. He was also one of the top 4 finalists for the Everett B. Morris Trophy, which is awarded annually to the College Sailor of the Year. Mace was joined on the short list by Alec Anderson of Roger Williams, Sam Blouin of Hobart and William Smith Colleges and Chris Barnard of Georgetown, who won the award after leading the Hoyas to the ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship title. Junior skipper Ben Spector (Santa Clarita, Calif.) also garnered All-American honors.

Seniors Alyssa Aitken (Sandwich, Mass.) and Perry Emsiek (Corona del Mar, Calif.) were named ICSA Crew All-Americans for the third and second time of their CofC careers respectively, while senior skipper Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.) was recognized as an honorable mention All-American for the second year in a row. He was a three-time ICSA Men's Singlehanded Nationals qualifier.

Aitken, Emsiek and Horowitz were one of nine ICSA sailors selected to join the U.S. delegation to compete at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China in 2011. They each won a silver medal for Team USA in the 2v2 470 team race at the World University Games.

All four led the Cougars to a No. 1 national ranking during the 2011-12 season in Sailing World's College Coed Rankings and a No. 1 national ranking in the Sail1Design College Sailing Team Race Rankings en route to the program's first-ever team race national championship title on June 5. They were also key members of CofC winning the prestigious Leonard M. Fowle Trophy, awarded annually to the best overall collegiate team in the country.

"We are extremely proud of our sailing team and our seniors for all of their accomplishments this year," CofC Head Coach Ward Cromwell said. "Finishing sixth at the women's nationals, winning the team race national championship for the first time in school history and sailing to a very respectable fourth at the coed fleet racing event, speaks volumes to the strength of our program. Winning the Fowle Trophy for the fifth time in school history makes us extremely proud of our program as a whole and all of our efforts throughout the school year."

Each of the CofC sailors' names will be added to the ICSA Hall of Fame display located in the Robert Crown Center at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

A committee of coaches who represent the seven conferences in the ICSA selects the ICSA All-America Team. For selecting the All-Americans the committee evaluates a competitor based on their competitive record in inter-conference competition as well as conference and national championships. The committee analyzes how this record compares to fellow competitors, the quality of the competition the record was achieved in, the span of the record over the fall and spring seasons, results achieved with different crews, and how the record compares to previous All-American winners in past years.
