MIAMI (May 4, 2012) - Mike Martinez tied Bryan Pullin on the FIU all-time career hit list with his 288th hit in an 8-4 win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.

In his first Friday night start, sophomore Eddy Pidermann earned his team-leading eighth win of the season. He gave up four runs (two earned) in six innings of work with six strikeouts in his fourth start of the season.

Aramis Garcia put the Panthers on the board in the third with a solo home run off the scoreboard in left. The home run was the fourth of the freshman backstop's season.

After the Blue Raiders scored three runs in the fifth, the Panthers answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a Nathan Burns double scoring Julius Gaines to cut the lead to 3-2. Middle Tennessee got that run back in the six on a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-2.

The bottom of the sixth inning was a big one for the Panthers as they scored six runs on six hits to take an 8-4 lead. After Jabari Henry, Tyler James Shantz and Adam Kirsch each scored on consecutive fielding errors by the Blue Raiders, FIU took a 5-4 advantage. Garcia singled in Oscar Aguirre to extend the Panthers' lead to 6-4.

Martinez's 288th career hit brought home Bermudez and Burns to make it 8-4 FIU. The hit tied Martinez atop the FIU career list. Martinez broke the FIU career records for RBI and total bases earlier this season.

John Caballero came in to relieve Pidermann in the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season.

The Panthers return to the diamond on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. at the FIU Baseball Stadium and honor its six seniors, Mike Martinez, Pablo Bermudez, Logan Dodds, Christian Malbrough, Iosmel Leon and R.J. Fondon in a pregame ceremony.
