Whitney Johnson Named Summit League Pitcher of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW's Ashleigh Bousquet and North Dakota State's Whitney Johnson were named The Summit League's Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances April 23-29.

Bousquet collects her first career Player of the Week honor after recording three multi-hit games and a 2.143 league slugging percentage, leading the Mastodons to a series win over IUPUI. The sophomore opened the week with back-to-back multi-hit games in a double-header sweep of Central Michigan.  She topped that performance by going a perfect 4-for-4 in game one against IUPUI with three home runs, seven RBI, and three runs scored.  The third baseman tied the school record for homers in a game, which is also the third-most in a game in NCAA history.  Her 13 total bases in game one tied for sixth-most in NCAA history and her three-straight homers is the second-longest streak in NCAA history.  In game two of series, the Mishawaka, Ind., native did not have a single at-bat with three walks and was hit by pitch twice.  In the series finale, she went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  For the week, she hit .600 (9-for-15) with a 1.467 slugging percentage and .714 on-base percentage, six extra-base hits, three homers, two doubles, one triple, nine runs scored, eight RBI, four walks and a stolen base.

Johnson garners her sixth career Pitcher of the Week honor, third of the season and second in as many weeks after throwing her fourth shutout of the season.  In the 2-0 win over South Dakota State, the right-handed hurler fanned 12 batters, her seventh double-digit strikeout performance of the season.  On the week, Johnson struck 12 batters, while yielding five hits, two walks and no runs in 7.2 innings of work for a perfect 0.00 ERA.
