SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- California Baptist University's distance track competed at the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego Saturday afternoon.

"Today was a great day for us," said Head Coach Ben Gall. "Our improvement is very consistent and it's good to see more runners making the national team. Now it's time to focus on next week and make a run at things."

Ashlee Cervantes finished fourth in the 1500-meter with a time of 4:40.99, which broke the school record set by Francisca Flores in 2001. Cervantes then went on to compete in the 3000-meter with a time of 10:23.53 finishing fourth. Rebecca Asplund took eighth in the 3000- meter with a time of 10:51.41.

After suffering a serious accident in the fall of 2010, Marisa Benson competed in the 1500-meter marking her first collegiate race. Benson finished 42nd with at time of 5:54.83.

Naomi Van Setten finished second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:09.81, which was just a second off the school record. Bethany Bilton ran a 11:14.38 and finished fourth. Bilton's time qualified her for nationals and set a personal record.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, Chase Williams finished third in the 800-meter with a time of 1:53.39. Chris Cline finished sixth with a time of 1:54.73 and Mitchell Moore took 10th with a time of 1:56.63.

Moore also competed in the 1500-meter finishing fourth with a time of 3:59.36. Mark Langworthy finished second in the 5k with a time of 15:20.09. Sergio Rodriguez took third in the 3000- meter steeplechase with a time of 9:18.24, which qualified him for nationals. Trevor Henson finished behind Rodriguez at fourth with a time of 9:38.87.

The Lancers will compete next at the NCCAA Outdoor National Championships on May 3-5.
