Panthers Fall to Jaguars on Walk-Off Home Run

MIAMI (April 27, 2012) - After Mike Martinez gave the Panthers (24-17, 10-9 Sun Belt) a one-run lead with a home run in the top of the ninth, but the Jaguars (17-25, 11-8 SBC) answered in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off home run for a 9-7 victory.

Jabari Henry finished the game 1-for-4 with a three-run home run while Martinez was 2-for-5 with a solo shot. Adam Kirsch added a three-hit game with two doubles and an RBI.

Pablo Bermudez led-off the game with a home run to right, the first of the year for the senior outfielder. Kirsch then added to the lead in the second with an RBI single scoring Tyler James Shantz who doubled to lead off the inning.

After the Jaguars cut the FIU lead to 2-1, Henry made it a 5-1 game with a monster three-run home run in the third, his 10th of the season.

South Alabama tied the game up with a three-run fourth after adding a run in the third before taking the lead, 6-5, in the seventh.

The Panthers then tied it up in the bottom half of the seventh on a Julius Gaines sacrifice fly scoring Kirsch. In the top of the ninth, Martinez gave the Panthers the lead with a home run to deep center field.

The Jaguars were down, but not out as they came back and won the game, 9-7, on a three-run walk off home run by Brad Hook.

These two teams will play game two of the series on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
