LONG BEACH, Calif. -- In what has been a season of school and personal records, senior thrower Christine Weinreich achieved yet another milestone today at the Long Beach State Invitational.
Weinreich recorded a discus throw of 147 feet, 4 inches, establishing a new personal record. It was also the second-best discus throw in the Great West Conference this season. The Pismo Beach, Calif., native placed 15th among 59 competitors in the event. She also notched a shot put mark of 41 feet, 1/2 inch, placing 35th out of 55.
Last night, Weinreich placed 20th among 46 participants in the hammer throw with a toss of 158 feet, 6 inches.
Teammate Megan Storstad (Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.) was right behind with a hammer throw of 157 feet, 1 inch. She also recorded a javelin throw of 112 feet, 1 inch.
The Sioux also represented themselves well in Saturday's field events. Senior Emily Emerson (Lino Lakes, Minn.) was outstanding in the 1,500-meters, placing 15th among 102 runners with a time of 4:30.30.
Junior Kirsten Haas was strong in a pair of events. The Belgrade, Mont., native was 14th among 54 participants in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.38. She also ran the 100-meter hurdles in 14.94 seconds, placing 45th among 68 runners.
Freshman Jessica Lindsay (Grand Forks, N.D.) recorded a time of 2:14.36 in the 800-meters, placing 43rd among 104 competitors.
UND also sent split squads to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., and the Carleton Relays in Northfield, Minn.
