Lady Bulldogs Fall 7-0 In Final Home Match To Lady Rebels

STARKVILLE, Miss. - In their last home match of the 2012 season, Mississippi State's 73rd-ranked women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to the No. 16-ranked Lady Rebels of Ole Miss Saturday afternoon.

State ended the regular season 7-13 ovreall, 1-10 in SEC play. MSU will compete in the 2012 SEC Championship next weekend (April 19-22) in Oxford, Miss. State will meet fifth-seeded Vanderbilt in Thursday first round at 3 pm. CT.

The Lady Rebels (16-7, 8-3) began doubles play with a win at the No. 3 position due to an MSU default. Ole Miss managed to clinch the doubles point with an 8-2 victory for Gabby Rangel and Erin Stephens against the MSU duo of Roseline Dion and Petra Ferancova on court two. Olesya Tsigvintseva and Naomi Tran for the Lady Bulldogs jumped off to an early 3-1 lead at the No. 1 position against Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie, who are currently ranked No. 4 nationally. But the Lady Rebel pair was able to rally back to take the match 8-3.

Mississippi State began singles play at a 2-0 deficit due to a default at the No. 6 position. Ole Miss added another point to their overall score with an efficient 6-1, 6-1 win from Julia Jones against MSU's Ferancova on court four. Ranked No. 9 nationally in singles, Boxx was the next Lady Rebel to complete, clinching Ole Miss' victory by defeating State's Alexandra Perper on court one in a 6-2, 6-2 decision.

Rhode-Moe advanced the Ole Miss score to 5-0, taking down Lady Bulldog senior Olesya Tsigvintseva 6-1, 6-1, who was playing in her final home match as a Lady Bulldog. MSU's Tran fell 6-2 in her first set against UM's Erin Stephens at No. 3. She competed well in the second set, but ultimately couldn't hold off Stephens, falling 6-3 and bringing the Rebels one step closer to a sweep. Abby Guthrie completed the 7-0 victory for Ole Miss, notching a 6-4, 6-3 win against Dion at the No. 5 spot.
