MAAC Men's Player of the Week

IAN TESMOND, FAIRFIELD

So., Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central

 

Sophomore Ian Tesmond went 4-0 this past week for the Stags in their two matches against the University of Connecticut and MAAC foe Niagara University.  Fairfield earned their second all-time win against the Huskies with a 7-0 sweep.  At No. 2 singles, Tesmond defeated Jacob Spreyer, 6-4, 6-2, and paired up with Cameron Amyot at No. 2 doubles to defeat Win Lei and Dave Adams, 8-4.  The Stags did not drop a set the entire day.  Against the Purple Eagles, Tesmond  edged David Raymond, 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 2 spot and once against paired with Amyot to come out on top against No. 2 duo Dufour-Coursol and Schwojer, 8-7(4).  The Fairfield men's team improved to 8-2 on the season and 2-0 in the MAAC after this week.

MAAC Women's Player of the Week

MONICA YAJIMA, FAIRFIELD

So., Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich

 

Monica Yajima was 4-0 on the week in matches against Sacred Heart University and Niagara University.  Against the Pioneers, Yajima played both No. 1 singles and doubles.  The Stag came back to beat Gabi Kaldan after dropping the first set in a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 decision.  In doubles, Yajima paired with classmate Sharissa Ryan.  The two defeated Sacred Heart's Kate Donnelly and Kristina Chao 8-4.  Against the Purple Eagles, Yajima once again competed in her usual one spot.  She defeated Hilary Hansen in two straight sets 6-0, 6-3 and with Ryan, defeated Hansen and Iva Celan 8-3.  The Fairfield women's team improves to 7-4 on the season and 3-0 in the MAAC.
