Gregoire Sets New SBC Weight Throw Record

Benia Gregoire and Raqurra Ishmar were the big winners for FIU on the final day of the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championship at Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The FIU women's track & field team finished third overall with 102 points behind champion Middle Tennessee (108 points) and North Texas (107). The FIU men's team placed ninth with 12 points. WKU won the men's crown with 160.50 points.

Gregoire set a new Sun Belt Championship record in the women's weight throw with a heave of 19.78 meters. 

Ishmar, who finished second in the shot put, was named the Women's Most Outstanding Freshman.

Besides Gregoire, FIU claimed two other individual titles. Lakeisha Kelley won the 400m with a time of 55.58. La'Shae White was third clocking in at 56.03.

The FIU women's 4x400 relay team won another title for the Panthers. La'Shae White, Kelley, Nia Anderson and Desmika White teamed up to run a time of 3:47.62.

The Panthers had top three finishes in a couple of other events.

T'Keyah Dumoy was third in the 55m with a time of 7.11. Carla-Kay Mills was right behind Dumoy with a mark of 7.16.

Kelley finished third in the 200m with a time of 24.42.
