LEXINGTON, Ky. - Sophomore outside hitter Katy Buck of Towson University wrapped up a stellar 2011 campaign by earning East Region Honorable Mention honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Buck is just the second Tiger to earn Honorable Mention honors from AVCA and the first since Liz Goubeaux did so in 2003 and 2004.
"Katy is an outstanding student-athlete in every sense of that term," said Towson Coach Bruce Atkinson. "She made a significant improvement this year and I believe she will continue to do so over the next two years."
Buck was named as the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year after leading the Tigers to a 23-9 mark and a spot in the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2008. Buck started all 32 matches and recorded 457 kills, which ranks fifth in school history. She averaged 4.04 kills per set to lead the CAA and recorded double digit kills in 28 of 32 matches. Buck finished second on the team with 268 digs and recorded a "double-double" nine times. She added 31 assists, 16 service aces and 25 blocks.
In addition to her success on the court, Buck had success in the classroom this season. She was a first team selection on the Capital One Academic All-District II team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
