Steeves, Adams Share A-10 Player of the Week Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington graduate student Patrick Steeves and St. Bonaventure senior Jaylen Adams have been chosen as the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, while Saint Louis freshman Jordan Goodwin was selected the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Tuesday, are for games played Dec. 18-24.

 

Steeves, a forward starred for GW in a pair of wins over New Hampshire and his former school Harvard, averaging 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists on .654 shooting (17-26). The sixth-year graduate student got his week started with seven boards, five assists and a season-high 23 points as GW defeated UNH 68-64. The Montreal native then scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed a game- and season-high nine rebounds, along with four assists, two steals and a block in a complete effort that helped GW take a 58-48 win over Harvard. His defense also helped limit Harvard to 48 points and .281 shooting, both season-lows for a GW opponent.

 

Adams led the Bonnies to wins over Northeastern and at Syracuse, averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. The guard from Baltimore was 10-for-18 from the field, including 5-for-8 from 3-point range, and 13-for-14 at the free throw line for the week. He scored 15 points against Northeastern, then led all scorers with 23 points in the overtime win at Syracuse. He added nine rebounds, shot 60 percent (6-for-10) from the field and buried four triples at Syracuse, leading the Bonnies to their first-ever win at the Carrier Dome

 

Goodwin led the Billikens with 18.0 points per game for the week as SLU posted two victories against Campbell and SEMO. The guard from Centreville, Ill., shot 58 percent from the field in the two games and brought down eight boards and dished out two assists on both games He scored 20 points in the win against SEMO, going 9-of-13 (.692) from the floor.

Peyton Aldridge led Davidson with 26 points in each of Davidson’s first two games in the Diamond Head Classic in Hawai’i … Josh Cunningham scored 19 points in the Flyers’ win over Wagner, hitting eight field goals … Dayton freshman Jordan Davis scored 11 points at St. Mary’s and then had nine points and five rebounds in the Wagner win … Tarin Smith had three strong games for Duquesne last week, including a 26-point effort on 8-of-10 shooting and 9-for-10 at the line against Southern Illinois … Duquesne freshman Eric Williams, Jr. also had three strong performances, averaging 12.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, including a 15-point, eight-rebound outing in the Dukes’ win over San Francisco … Justin Kier scored 22 points on 9-of-12 from the field with six rebounds to lead the Patriots past Morgan State … Mason freshman Gornar Mar added 14 points and seven rebounds to the effort in the Morgan State victory …  Pookie Powell tallied 29 points, hitting nine field goals and nine free throws while adding four rebounds and three assists on the road at Bucknell … Massachusetts freshman Carl Pierre had a 25-point explosion, shooting 7-for-9 (.778) from 3-point rage in the win over Maine … Rhode Island’s Jared Terrell scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half to lead the Rams past Iona, adding in four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
