Student-Athletes Give Back Through Annual Toy Drive
UMKC men's soccer associate head coach Fred Schlichting will be stepping away following 18 seasons with the program after accepting an advancement position with the UMKC School of Medicine. Schlichting has been an integral part of UMKC's soccer program under Hall of Fame coach Rick Benben, as they have spent their entire tenure with the Roos together.
UMKC men's soccer (2-12-2, 1-7-2) was beaten 3-1 at UNLV (7-11-1, 5-4-1) in the season finale Saturday night at Johann Field. Felipe Cepeda (Cali, Colombia) gave the Roos an early 1-0 lead with a 10th-minute goal but three Rebels scores in the second half proved to be the difference.
UMKC men's soccer closes its season with a 9 p.m. CT matchup at UNLV on Saturday. The Rebels compete in the WAC for men's soccer.
UMKC (2-11-2, 1-6-2) was defeated 2-1 by San Jose State (4-12-2, 3-5-1) Saturday night at Durwood Stadium. The Roos got out to an early 1-0 lead on a 26th-minute goal by Michele Drago (Bergamo, Italy), but two second half goals by the Spartans were the difference.
UMKC (2-10-2, 1-5-2) fell 2-0 to CSU Bakersfield (5-11-0, 3-5-0) Thursday evening at Durwood Stadium. Niklas Korber scored both goals for the Roadrunners in the second half.
UMKC men's soccer wraps up its home schedule with contests Thursday vs. CSU Bakersfield at Saturday against San Jose State. Thursday's matchup will begin at 7:30 p.m. CT while Saturday's kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT at Durwood Stadium.
UMKC (2-9-2, 1-4-2) fell 3-0 at Air Force (11-5-0, 5-2-0) on Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The teams played to a halftime tie before the Falcons found the net three times in the second half.
UMKC (2-8-2, 1-3-2) was defeated 5-1 at Grand Canyon (5-7-3, 2-2-3) on Friday evening at GCU Stadium. Eric McWoods (St. Louis, Mo.) gave the Roos an early 1-0 lead with a 30th-minute goal but a controversial red card shortly thereafter forced UMKC to play a man down for the final 58-plus minutes of the match.
UMKC men's soccer hits the road to play in Western Athletic Conference competition at Grand Canyon on Friday night and Air Force Sunday afternoon. Kickoff in Phoenix Friday is slated for 9 p.m. CT while Sunday's action in Colorado Springs begins at 2 p.m. CT.
UMKC (2-7-2, 1-2-2) dropped a 2-0 decision against Utah Valley (11-3-0, 4-1-0) Sunday night at Durwood Stadium. The Roos registered 13 shots on the evening but were unable to find the net.
