The University of Idaho women’s swimming and diving team once again has been recognized as a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America.

The Vandals combined for a grade-point average of 3.37 to earn the distinction.

"We are incredibly proud of these impressive young athletes,” coach Mark Sowa said. “We try to recruit swimmers and divers who expect greatness in the pool and the classroom; ones who love challenges and embrace the term scholar-athlete.

“Not only do our kids excel but they do so with incredibly difficult fields of study as well. The entire Vandal Family should be proud."

To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade-point average of 3.00 or higher over the spring semester. A recent survey of Division I programs showed that nearly 40 percent of all female and more than one-third of male swimmers and divers pursued degrees in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.
